Wish upon a Star ✨🌌✨

The Sun Sirius and Planet Earth are aligned in the Sky creating a magical portal. Sirius is a star system located 8.6 light-years away. The alignment of Sirius, Earth, and the Sun has held significant historical and cultural importance for civilizations across the globe, influencing calendars, religious beliefs, and navigation. While a direct physical alignment in a straight line is a specific astronomical event, the most historically significant alignment refers to the heliacal rising of Sirius which is currently happening. A heliacal rising happens when a star, after being hidden by the sun’s glare for a period, becomes visible again in the eastern sky for a brief moment just before sunrise. The Perseids meteorite shower will be peaking in the night of Aug 12 - 13. This is the best moment to look at the sky. 75 shooting stars will be able to be seen per hour.

🌜Being born during the Leonids my soul became infused with the star dust of the Leo constellation. This gave me a love for astronomy and the galaxies🌛

A planetary alignment will also be visible, featuring six planets: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The best time to view this event is in the hour before sunrise, looking toward the eastern horizon.

1.3 seconds at the speed of light is how fast we can see our Moon. It orbits Planet Earth at an average distance of 384,400 km. So far and yet so near.

The moon’s light is constantly morphing through its lunar cycle as the sun shines on its surface. This dance of light between the sun, us and the moon fascinates me. I capture its magic as part of the Air Élément.

As an Artist documenting the Elements for more than a decade, I have always wanted to see myself immersed in them. Here that dream came true. This photoshoot captured my soul as an artist. I am submerged in the Water Element becoming one with it. My art of Sharks and Moon Jellyfish complement the mood along my abstract images of the water element. I then play with the Fire Element as it dances around me. Ethereal ribbons of orange flame light for a moment the dark in my art. The series of Blue Morpho Butterflies juxtaposed with the flames show us how delicate biodiversity can be and how in an instant they could be gone if we are not careful with our warming planet. From there I step into the Earth Element in a Botanical Orchid Garden. Here I am with Sky, my rescued tamarin monkey. As my art I present my work at The Orchid Lab where I create art forms of imaginary hybrid orchids merging with their pollinators. The magic ended at the top of a dormant Volcano where I am at an elevation of 3,475 meters surrounded by clouds in the Air Element. The article ends with images of my art of the Colors of Air in its abstract shapes and changing colors: white, orange, pink, yellow. Happy World Ocean Day 🤍🩵💙 The moon jelly is one of my favorite marine animals. Its translucent body gracefully pulsates through ocean currents, from the tropics to subpolar regions. Moon jellies have a complex lifecycle involving both sexual and asexual phases, with their four-leaf clover-shaped gonads serving as reproductive organs. They primarily feed on plankton, mollusks, crustaceans, diatom chains, and fish eggs. Moon jellies can grow up to 15 inches in diameter and have a relatively short lifespan, living about 12 to 18 months in the wild. Although not endangered, an overabundance of moon jellies can indicate a collapsing ecosystem. They are also part of sea turtles’ diets and can sometimes be mistaken for plastic bags in the ocean. Using reusable bags is a simple yet effective way to protect sea turtles and keep our oceans clean.

The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is a critically endangered species known for its beautiful, overlapping scutes that create a distinctive pattern on its shell. These turtles are primarily found in tropical coral reefs where they play a vital role in the ecosystem by maintaining the health of the coral reefs and sea grass beds. They have a wide distribution through the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Hawaii has a beautiful symbiosis with nature and this encounter was by Waikiki beach one of the main city beaches. Humans and nature coexisting peacefully.

The star map lead the explorers to a rocky moon where sharks swam amongst a constellation of stars. Twinkling diamonds in the sky. The observations were documented in the nature journal.

The southern Sting Ray is found in estuaries and sand flats near sea grass meadows and coral reefs. A bottom dwelling species it uses its gills to sift through the sand and catch small prey like fish and shrimp. It is found ranging from New Jersey to Southern Brazil on the Western Atlantic Sea. I spotted it while exploring underwater in the Bocas del Toro Archipiélago on the Caribbean side of Panama. The beautiful colors of the stingray where documented with my underwater Sony Alpha in a UW Nauticam Case. Southern Sting Rays are classified by IUCN as near threatened due to habitat destruction and it being caught often as bycatch. My naturalist journal entry for the sting ray contains field notes and a coordinate locations map created with artificial intelligence.

The blade fire coral is a beautiful golden orange commonly found in the shallow waters of the Caribbean up to a depth of 15 meters. Its name comes from the burning sensation it causes upon contact. A hard skeleton coral, the colonies expand by growing the calcareous skeleton. Fire coral feeds mostly at night through its polyps. Some polyps act like hairlike structures which capture zooplankton and inject venom into their prey, while other polyps are for absorbing food. They reproduce by alternating generations that are sexual and asexual. Broken off fragments are great to repopulate damaged reefs. Despite their name, fire corals are still susceptible to coral bleaching when the temperatures of the water increase. IUCN classifies it as least concern in its endangered classifications.

In Malay, the corals are called akah bahar ("root of the sea"), likely named for their tendency to grow at low-light depths. It is found in tropical parts of the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It has a feather like shape made from a brown black flexible skeleton of a keratin like substance called "antipathin". Their reddish color comes from the polyps which grow on it. The growth rates of black corals are low and it lives for thirty or more years. The main threats facing this coral is when it is used for jewelry.

Hanabiko "Koko" 🦍🌿 went to monkey heaven today. A Gorilla, she became known for redefining the possibilities in human-animal communication. She learned to speak over 1,000 words in sign language showing us that other species besides humans also have the ability to communicate and form complex thoughts. Koko inspired me to learn more about Mako and Sky’s language. I wanted to communicate with them like they could with Koko. Gorilla’s brains develop more than Tamarins, so Mako and Sky haven’t learned sign language yet. Instead, I have learned to understand them and talk to them in Tamarin, their native speech. Approximately 40 different whistles communicate different emotions and they have unique sounds for different animals. Their expressions also communicate a lot in their species. Having rescued them I am privileged to be able to observe conversations between them, which I often record to document their language. Hopefully Koko inspired more humans to care about Gorillas whose survival as a species is currently under threat.

Sixth Sense: The Ampullae of Lorenzini allow Sharks to pick up on the electrical fields generated by other animals. With an ability to feel energy, “Your vibe attracts your tribe” is so true here. When I am in the water with a shark, there is a unique energy which I am very attracted to. It sharpens my mind, ability and senses. An Alpha species, sharks enjoy being amongst other Alpha. To be with them you must be calm, respectful and strong. Our worlds come together and we share a special moment. #biovoyage

I pray that after the recent events with Harvey and Irma, we as a species realize the power nature has over us. We should respect it and live a balanced life if we want to survive as a species. This is Makō - A Geoffroy's Tamarin Monkey from Panama. She and Sky are best friends. By living with them, I have been able to observe how just like humans primates have unique personalities. Makō is more reserved and like her name indicates (Mako Shark) she can bite to protect them both. And although Sky is more playful, Makō is more of a sweetheart. 🐒♥️ #MakōandSky
